Understanding the Science Behind Addiction: Why It is Not a Moral Failure of the Character
Please join us for online event UNDERSTANDING THE SCIENCE BEHIND ADDICTION: Why it is not a moral failure of the character on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 8amPST/10am CST/ 11am EST.
How many of us, who lost our loved ones, experience tremendous grief and face terrible stigma on top of that! How many times did you feel that you had to defend your kid and to prove that she or he were a good person but suffered from a disease? Well, you are not alone, and you will hear a Neuroscience Professor state that addiction is a brain disorder, and that was not their fault or yours.
Our featured speaker, Mark Thomas, PhD, Director of the Medical Discovery Team on Addiction at the University of Minnesota, a new collaborative research program to discover new treatment options for Opioid-Use Disorder. His research examines how addictive drugs alter the brain and how these changes can lead to compulsive drug use. His lab is now focusing on ways to disrupt addiction relapse.
Presented by Chris Wivholm Foundation, Devin’s Dream, Megan Kelley Foundation, Mothersheartbreak.com and PickingupthePieces.us
Professor Thomas will focus on understanding Substance Use Disorder as a medical condition that needs recognition and help, and ending the stigma. Please submit any questions for Mark to info@chriswivholm.org prior to January 20. We will allow questions during the event in the chat but we can not guarantee to cover them all.
